We have all been watching
the news about the situation in the Middle East, as America and her allies have now gone to war with the nation of Iraq.
We pray for our troops. We
pray for our leaders. We pray for peace.
But as we think about this
particular war with Iraq, we, as Christians, must remember that the war in which we are engaged is ongoing. It didn't just
start, it's not about to begin -it has never ceased.
I'm speaking of our spiritual
conflict with Satan and the forces of evil and darkness.
The Bible says,
" For though we walk in
the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling
down of strongholds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God; and
bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. " (2 Corinthians 10: 3-5).
We are engaged in a conflict
with the spiritual forces of Satan; we are battling for the hearts, minds, and allegiances of man. We seek to lead our fellow
man out of darkness and into the light by obedience to Christ.
We are soldiers in the army
of God. Ours is not a physical, carnal battle; it isn't fought with guns, bullets, tanks or planes. But it is a war, nonetheless!
The Bible says,
"... war a
good warfare" (I Timothy I: 18)
" Fight the good fight
of faith lay hold on eternal life " (I Timothy 6: 12)
" Thou therefore endure
hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ " (2 Timothy 2: 3 )
"Put on the whole armor of
God; that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood; but against
principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world; against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto
you the whole armor of God; that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand " (Ephesians 6: 10-13).
Long after the
Middle East situation is over, our war continues. Are you a good solider of Jesus Christ?
