Most of us when we are out job hunting, we give a great deal of weight and
consideration to the career offering the most cash. Don't we all want good wages to live off of? As a Christian, we too should
be seeking the wages, not of sin, but those that we could LIVE off of, those that bring us abundant life. So where do we find
these wages? What direction do we look? Job took steps in three directions to find his great payoff (Job 7; 9:25-31)
I. LOOKING OUTWARD (v. 5)
A.
Job looked at the condition and appearance of his outward person and didn't like what he saw.
1. His flesh was rotting and oozing and scabbing. How
could he get away from this?
2. 19:25 Job comes to the conclusion that one day he
WILL see God and that no longer will he be in such a miserable state.
3. 14:12-14 Job seeks a change/renewal that God will
bring about-a resurrection
B. Perhaps we as people of God have looked outward in
the past, but with rose tinted glasses on. We have enjoyed the material earthly things, but they are fading quickly and we
now need to recognize how we will be left empty handed and without God if we trust in material things.
1. Jas 4:14 Life is short and will vanish away- you cant
hold on to it.
2. Isa 38:1-2 Hezekiah was told to set his house
in order for he would die. So he turned and looked toward God, He looked upward.
II. LOOKING UPWARD (v. 17)
A. In all of Jobs distress, while he sees his pitiful physical state, Job can find no other
hope except that he turn heavenward and seek good things from above.
B. We should always look heavenward for thats where we will find those blessings that will
help us through trial and growth in our search for the path to become like Christ.
- Col 3:1-3 set your mind on these things
- Phil 4:8-9 things that are
pure
III. LOOKING INWARD (v. 20f; 9:25-31)
A. Job having looked outward and seen that nothing physical or material can satisfy for any
length of time, then turned his eyes to look upward for an answer to help him. Having contemplated the Father, Job even examines
himself by looking inward. Job nearly mourns for the thought of any sin that would separate him from God. He longs for a mediator
to reach his Father in heaven.
B. In like manner, it TAKES TIME to contemplate and examine your how things are going over.
Be as David who mediates on Gods good law for a reflection as a mirror to your
soul.
- 1 Cor 11:27-29 let man examine
himself.
- 2 Cor 13:5 Test yourselves.examine
yourselves
Are you involved in the right works? Are they taking you in the right direction?
Check to see if you are being paid the wages of eternal life or of sin-who is your master? Who do you work for? Job sought
to fins these answers by job hunting, by looking outward, upward, and inward. He found the one who would forgive him of his
sins and give him eternal life. Make Jesus your master, let it be named of you as it was of Job My servant. Job 42: 7-8
